In 2026 a crypto project should not simply call itself a “licensed platform”. First map the services actually provided and check the applicable transitional regime in the selected EU Member State.
Readiness checklist
- service map: custody, exchange, execution, transfer, advice or portfolio management;
- legal entity, registered office and effective management in the EU;
- directors, UBOs and fitness and propriety evidence;
- AML/KYC, complaints, conflicts, outsourcing and safeguarding;
- ICT, cybersecurity, incident response and continuity;
- capital, financial plan, banking and payment model.
Transition
MiCA has transitional rules for certain existing providers, but timing and conditions depend on the Member State and do not remove the need for authorisation. Once the applicable period ends, unauthorised activity may have to stop.
Website and advertising must state the real application status. CrystalCore supports MiCA/CASP Licensing, entity structuring and KYB/KYC. This is not legal advice.
